I remember my first ever self-evaluation in my white-collar job where I had to write about how I was living the core values of a semiconductor manufacturing company. It seemed like a silly task to me but fast forward to being in my gym and thinking about hiring staff, I realized how important having people who believe in your mission and vision truly are. These are the people who represent me and my values to my athletes and families. I realized how crucial it really is to have well-defined values and to hold people accountable for living them daily when they are representing me and my gym.
I think families should consider a gym’s core values when selecting a gym so they know who the people who will be working with their kids are and what they believe in. So, here are the values of our small gym in Central Massachusetts…
At Supernatural All Stars, we have 5 core values that we consistently demonstrate:
- We Care. We voluntarily take a personal interest in the athlete and family situation and proactively help where we can.
- Quality. We take the time to ensure skills are being done correctly and with proper progression. We believe in “Perfection before progression.”.
- We are Professionals. We are organized, punctual, and responsive. We communicate clearly and regularly with our customers. We model the behavior we want to see in our athletes.
- We are Collaborative. We will work together, as a team, regardless of what team or class we are assigned to, to support each other, and our athletes.
- We are Adaptable. We think for ourselves, and we can overcome problems. We are flexible and we know that today is temporary.
I love that I can count on my staff to live these values. To teach lessons that support these values. I feel blessed every day to work in a gym like mine with like-minded people. If you are looking for a new gym to call home, ask what their values are and how they demonstrate them. Find the right fit for you, your family, and your goals.
Until next time,
Coach Jill
