We hear it all the time – all star cheer is so expensive. And boy – It sure is. I hate that the sport can be price prohibitive for some, but that’s the unfortunate reality.

Let’s be real for a minute though – it’s getting an unfair rep. Most sports are way too expensive. I mean, seriously. Unless you are doing a town league, once you hit any sport with even limited travel involved, the cost skyrockets. Case in point – my son was a competitive snowboarder and my husband and I had to get an apartment near his home mountain so he could be training 4-5x a week. That and all the boots, boards, wax, cold weather gear… it was crazy how much money just left our bank accounts during that time.

I think there are ways for people who want to cheer to be able to cheer – many gyms offer booster clubs with fundraisers that really help offset the costs. I know people who can pay their whole season this way! I’ve had parents decide to do DoorDash while their kid was practicing to make some extra money. There are plenty of ways to cut corners and budget effectively in order to make cheerleading work for you! In my gym, I encourage my families to reach out for payment plans and help whenever they need it. Hopefully, your gyms does that too!

Until Next Time,
Coach Jill
